I received my yoga training through White Lotus in Romeo, Michigan. Prior to this I worked in the corporate world. I have a Bachelors Degree in Public Relations from Western Michigan University. Becoming a wife and a mother began to ruffle my "normal" from the inside out. Digging into the real core of who I am.
My yoga journey began after I saw yoga transform my best friend's life. She is the friend I confide in, the one I stand beside, and the best business partner in town. I knew there was more to life, more ways to connect to myself, a way to find a deeper connection with God. Yoga taught me to learn about Jana, the incredible woman that lived inside. I have opinions. I have desires. I have struggles. I have emotions that are important. I have a role in this world. I believe life should be treasured. Your most precious moments soaked into an eternal memory. Believing your purpose in life is to love and be loved. To know God and walk with him. To honor yourself and others. To be kind to all.
Yoga has taught me the importance of breath and how powerful it can be. Linking breath with movement in a way to feel alive and loved. Using the strength of the body to move and heal. Class is a wonderful way to connect with yourself while also feeling like a part of the community. Knowing we all support each other and honoring where we are in life at the moment. A place for everyone to feel heard and wanted. A safe place to come and find YOU. A place where we will love YOU.
Lets all come together in this crazy thing called life and just connect, uplift and love! Sharing our stories. Living and learning. Day by day. Together forever!

I am a blessed wife and mother and loving them is my greatest joy. My family and friends fill my soul and daily remind and show me how loved I am. I love Jesus and He is my greatest teacher of all time. It was yoga that taught me stillness, and in stillness I hear God's voice and am reminded of my truth. I can't describe me without mentioning Jana, she is my best friend, my business partner and my person. Together, we welcome you with love and gratitude to Port Huron Yoga.
I have a Bachelors Degree in Business Marketing. I have a passion for yoga and believe in it so much that one day I decided to quit my job as a Pharmaceutical Rep and become a yoga teacher! This has been one of my most impactful life changing decisions that I have ever made! I received my 200 hour Yoga Teacher training at Namaste in Royal Oak, MI and have been teaching yoga since 2014.
Having struggled in the past with body image, yoga has taught me how to connect with and love my body. It has taught me the power of breath and meditation and how to hear those whispers of the Holy Spirit. Yoga has been a gift to me, my mind and my body. It has brought me health, opened my heart and let go of so much tension and pressure I used to place on myself and on others.
I want to share this awareness with others and empower from within! I believe in community and coming together in a place that you feel loved and accepted brings healing and joy. I invite others to just come as they are, imperfectly perfect and I will never judge! I want people to know they are not alone. So let's practice together, learn together and grow together!
RYT 200, Thai Yoga Massage
Hello! The place I call home is in Carsonville/Port Sanilac, MI. I have been practicing and teaching yoga for a little over two years now. I received my certificate at Up Dog Yoga Studio in Rochester Hills, MI. I am in the process of finishing up my clinical hours for Thai Yoga Massage. The classes that I give the most love through are Restorative and Yin where I can incorporate Thai Yoga Massage. I have been blessed with three children and four grandchildren along with my fur baby Bella. Cooking, gardening, and pretty much anything outdoors I enjoy in my free time. It is such a blessing to be apart of the Port Huron Yoga family!
Yoga was calling me for several years before I finally took the plunge and fully embraced it when Port Huron Yoga opened. In September, 2018, I furthered my practice and earned my certification as a RYT200 instructor and Reiki I and II healer through White Lotus Studio in Romeo, MI. Through this yoga journey, I have learned to be kinder, more accepting, and forgiving to myself. The yoga community is always very supportive, encouraging, and with no judgment. Yoga brings a lightness, beauty and grace to all of us. My journey has
brought me closer to God, my spirituality, and has led me to realize the importance of self care, bringing inner peace. I look forward to continued learning and sharing with all of you! “Inhale the future, exhale the past!”
Hello there! My name is Melissa, but call me Mel. I’m so grateful and honored to be apart of the yoga community. I found yoga at a time in my life when I had to surrender to what is. Leaving my ego off my mat and gaining a better perspective of who I truly was, an empath, life started to make more sense. I decided to join the RYT 200 program at White Lotus, graduating in 2015. I found a whole new world in the yoga community, and it also led me to Reiki. I’m certified in Reiki level 2 & hope to complete the Holy Fire training as well. I cannot wait to meet everyone and place my hands on you, to give you some good energetic vibes. "Get in touch with the energy field of the inner body. Be intensely present. Dis-identify from the mind. Surrender to what is." Eckhart Tolle.
I am 200-hr RYT certified and my teaching focuses on linking breath to movement while calming the mind and connecting to your higher self. In addition, I hold certification in Thai Yoga massage.
Communing with nature, earthing, meditating, and being on the water are the other avenues I use to feed my soul. I call to yoga, in its many forms, to calm incessant thoughts and especially doubts. My practice has slowly inspired and trickled into every area of my life, bringing understanding and patience.
Much of her time off of my mat, is spent connecting with family and friends
My intention is to help others learn about themselves through yoga. Allowing them to realize that through their own breath and movement they can transcend obstacles and become stronger (both mentally and physically). I love to incorporate massage, aromatherapy and guided meditation to aid relaxation during savasana. And, my deepest desire is the show each and every one of you that You are a masterpiece of personality, intellect, skill, emotion, talent and supernatural gifting meant to spread light and love to people on earth

Originally from Port Huron, I’ve spent the last nine years living in Asia and I’m very excited about my transition back home and to Port Huron Yoga! I found a passion for bellydance in 2001 and after completing an Arabesque pro course in 2006, I taught Egyptian style bellydance for 3 years in Canada. From practicing and performing bellydance for more than a decade, I was exposed to and incorporated yoga and many of its elements from and into my dance classes. It wasn’t until about 5 years ago that I took up a serious practice and received my 200 hour Hatha & Vinyasa yoga teacher training certification in Goa, India of 2014. Since then, I have taught various kids and adult yoga and movement classes abroad.
I have placed in multiple international bellydance competitions and performed in 13 countries. I hold certification in Bellydance, Group Exercise Leadership, Hatha, Vinyasa & Aerial Yoga and three Bellyfit® Teacher Certifications.
Yoga for me is LOVE. Yoga is how I came to know myself. It’s how I came home. Describing the practice is something more easily felt than communicated. Yoga transcends the physical practice and becomes a way of living and of caring for oneself and others. When I fell in love with yoga, I felt a strong urge to connect with others and share the magic that can happen on the mat. This lead me to teaching and I am just embarking on my path as a yoga teacher. The coolest thing to observe from a teaching standpoint, is the unique expression of yoga that varies between students throughout a class. Collectively, the class is unified in a pose, yet that pose means something different to each person. A person gives a pose their personality, their body, their uniqueness. I strive for people to find themselves in class and to appreciate their own expression of yoga on the mat.
Hi! I was born and raised in the Port Huron area, love to read, sing karaoke, and spend time with family and friends. I began practicing yoga in 2012 as a way to relieve stress, develop self-acceptance, and gain confidence. I grew to love yoga and the positivity it created in my life.
In 2016, I made the decision to expand my knowledge of yoga and enrolled in teacher training. It was an experience I will always hold close to my heart. I completed training with Theresa May at Santosha Yoga in the fall of 2017 earning my RYT 200 certification.
I like to incorporate breath with movement in my classes. I believe yoga is for everybody and we all come to yoga for a different reason. Yoga is a practice, always evolving. My goal is to provide an accessible adaptive yoga environment where students can learn and grow in their practice on and off
I also have certifications in Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki - Master Level, Yoga for All, and Kids Yoga Foundations. To me, yoga is a lifelong journey of learning. I look forward to continuing this journey by learning from other students and teachers.
